ACE (2019) is an edition taken from a painting of the same title, first shown in the artist’s 2017 exhibition at White Cube, London, where Miller introduced his ‘Letter Painting’ series. Unlike Miller’s book cover works, which revolve around the idea of ‘the title’, the ‘Letter Paintings’ use a single, short word or acronyms made up of only two, three or four letters.

Depicted in bold, saturated colours this series of hard-edge paintings references, amongst others, Robert Rauschenberg and Ed Ruscha’s use of vernacular signage and motifs. Miller depicts the letters in a range of typefaces, through a process of isolating, overlaying and reconnecting, to create a sense of depth in the image that deconstructs and abstracts language itself.

Inspired by the illuminated letters of medieval manuscripts, Miller brings a Pop Art sensibility to this age-old form, on which combines and celebrates both the sacred and the profane.

This edition is available in two size variations and sold unframed. For further information please contact editions@whitecube.com
